War near the road
This time we arrived with a team of 4 people. We chose a place near the old road (it was a section of German defense in February 1942), but in 1943 there were Soviet troops. So there should be a lot of war finds. As often happens, excavations began with pumping water out of the dugout. At first, the pump did this, and in the end, when there was little water left, we removed the water using ordinary buckets. The first find was a Soviet spade mortar (more precisely, a part of it) – a very rare thing.
The next find was a Soviet military wooden box, which unfortunately turned out to be empty. Next, we dug up several gas masks and F-1 grenades. Near this dugout I found a German helmet that layed on the surface of the earth. Unfortunately, the part of the helmet that came into contact with the earth rotted.
10 meters from the helmet there was a good signal – the famous Mosin rifle. But its condition was deplorable. That day was greedy for finds. But still we managed to get a few interesting gizmos, namely – beautiful, all in the inscriptions bottle; German penknife; German fork spoon; and especially one helmet in very good condition. Unfortunately Sunday ended, so we had to leave the forest.
