Battle of Uman
The Battle of Uman took place in late July – early August 1941, during the offensive of the Wehrmacht Army Group South on the territory of the USSR. It led to the encirclement (the so-called “Uman cauldron”) and the subsequent death of the troops of the 6th and 12th armies of the Southwestern Front and individual units of the Southern Front of the Red Army. It was the process of rewarding the Wehrmacht soldiers for a successfully completed combat mission that the photographer managed to capture on these photos in color.
